Let’s vote?

by Calvin Robinson on April 25, 2009.

Thurs 4th June – European Elections. Let’s vote?

I understand that it has only been 80 years since every man and woman over the age of 21 has been able to vote in the UK, so the novelty has probably worn off or something.

I’m not going to give the old “people fought for our rights to vote” bs, we’ve all heard that too many times in American movies. But it is a right, and a duty. If we want to see things done ‘right’ to our beliefs, then we have to take the simple step of voting for a political party. If we do not vote, we give facist parties like the BNP an opportunity to snap up seats – this is never a good thing.

It’s really not hard, you can even vote by post if it’s a lazy thing. I just can’t understand why anyone would not want a say in the running of our country or our continent.

We’re not quite ‘The United States of Europe’, but Europe does have a lot of influence over the running of the United Kingdom, so let’s make sure we have MEPs that align with our actual beliefs. They are our voice afterall.

  • i registered to vote and everything, only to discover I'm not around that day to vote. How silly! I really wanted to backlash the politicians after the whole expenses swindle. Who even needs a moat
  • true about the voting thing. It is a duty that falls on us all, not just because our people laid down their lives to protect our freedom, and that is what we are talking about here, our freedom and the people we ask to represent that freedom for us. Also what happens in politics, is a part of every part of our lives, from the day you are born till the day you are dead and beyond.
