Colourblind Consumerism

by Calvin Robinson on January 5, 2009.

This just goes to show how much we’re used to our foods being dyed with fakeness (yes that is a word)…

I poured myself a glass of strawberry milk from a bottle of Crusha (a strawberry syrup concentrate that you add to milk), only to be very disturbed to see the milk only turned a very light shade of pink. I started reading the bottle with a cautious expression on my face o_0 wondering if I’d just purchased an out-of-date product. I came across a message reading ‘Due to requests from our customers, Crusha now uses only natural colourings. So you may notice your Strawberry Crusha is now a much lighter shade of pink, but it’s still the same great taste’ or something to that effect.

So because the drink wasn’t a fake bright pink, I was actually worried about the validity of the product. When it simply turns out that the product is in fact more healthier for me now. It still doesn’t look right though! Are we really that accustomed to fakeness?

  • Yesturday I was babysitting my 5yo cousin. Made him a glass of strawberry milkshake, he looked at me funny and said "It's not even pink o_0", as if I were trying to con him into drinking regular milk lol.

I just find it funny that even our kids are used to this fakeness already.
