Over the last few weeks there’s been a lot of media attention on the Linux Hater’s Blog and similar website. We’ve seen the opposite for years, in fact I was once a moderator for MicroSuck (Now known as stop-microsoft.org). The Mac OS community aren’t innocent of this behavior either.
We slate each other, look down on each other and pick faults with everything about the opposite Operating Systems. Anything we possibly can to justify our own correct choice of OS.
I say Windows fanboys rather than community, because everyone who uses Windows could be classed as part of the community, but it’s the fanboys that cause all the trouble. Where as with the Linux and Mac OS the community and fanboys tend to be one of the same. The people who really appreciate their Operating System, as a preference. Rather than people who use it simply because that’s what their PC came with.
But what I wanted to talk about, is how the community acts to these hate-site, or anti-OS sites.
The difference being, at least that I’ve noticed, is that the Linux Community has taken to these anti-linux sites with a mostly positive view to them.
I’ve seen nothing put posts/articles about how criticisms is good for Linux, and how we can use this to further better our beloved Operating System.
However our anti-windows sites always suffer a huge backlash of protesters, angry fanboys, to an almost militant degree. They see it as war, that we don’t like Windows, and try to provide the public with awareness of alternatives.
To be honest, each Operating System has it’s own crowd. They each seem to attract a different kind of audience.
Mac OS being the designers, Linux being the hackers/coders and Windows being the gamers.
I think there’s plenty of room for all 3. If only MS would lose that monopoly, and the market could become more open to competition. The only problem I see is awareness.
People need to be aware that Windows isn’t the only operating system, and there are others that may better suit their needs. Unfortunately this isn’t always easy when Microsoft use strong bully tactics to keep their OS the default on all major PC manufacturers.
